When I was a kid, I played golf with my Dad, and we saw David and Rick Nelson one morning at the Balboa Golf course in Encino, California. They were eating in the snack bar and ready to go back out of the course. It was in the early 60's when they were big stars on Ozzie and Harriet, and Rick Nelson was a big music star in those days. Guys like me grew up with shows like Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, Dobie Gillis. Those were the days of real "G" rated TV and entertainment, that still stands the test of time in reruns.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — David Nelson, who starred on his parents’ popular television show “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” has died, a family spokesman said. He was 74.

Nelson died Tuesday at his home in the Century City area of Los Angeles after battling complications of colon cancer, said family spokesman and longtime Hollywood publicist Dale Olson.

Born in New York City, Nelson attended the University of Southern California before joining his family on the small screen.

He and his teen idol brother, Rick, convinced their parents to be on the show.

“The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” aired on ABC from 1952 to 1966 and some of the story lines were taken from the stars’ own lives. Nelson was the last surviving member of the well-known TV family and he directed numerous episodes of the series.

His film credits include “Peyton Place,” “The Big Circus” and “Love and Kisses.” In l976, he costarred with his mother in “Smash-Up on Interstate 5.”

He also appeared in various TV roles and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Yvonne; four sons and a daughter; and seven grandchildren. A service will be held Thursday at Pierce Brothers Westwood Mortuary.

Yep, those were the days of real "G" rated entertainment, as in Maynard G. Creb. That brings back a lot of memories Greeney. I remember standing in line at a Baskin Robins in in Sunset Beach, Ca. right behind Ricky Nelson. I think I was about fifteen at the time. It was amazing who you could run into in the beach towns in So. Cal.

David was always the real gentleman even when he played second fiddle to Rick. If we had shows like their's today, we would not have reached the moral decay that we have achieved.
