US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Thursday described the report that Iraq could have banned missiles as "troubling" and would show Baghdad was not in compliance with UN resolutions demanding he disarm.
"I think it's troubling," Powell told reporters as he left a House of Representatives hearing.
"If Dr Blix reports that tomorrow based on the information he's been given ... I think it's very troublesome, it shows Iraqi non-compliance which is exactly the case the United States has been making."
Earlier, the White House said the United States is studying the report and awaiting for Blix's briefing.
"Those are notable and we look forward to hearing what Dr. Blix has to say at the UN," White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan told reporters, declining to say whether the report was the "smoking gun" Washington had been searching for to prove Iraq was in violation of UN resolutions.
UN inspectors were told Wednesday that Iraq's Al-Samoud missile has a range that exceeds the 150 kilometre (90 mile) range limit imposed on Baghdad by the UN Security Council after the Gulf War in 1991. But UN officials said they had not to make a final conclusion.
Blix and Mohamed ElBaradei are to report on their work in Iraq to the UN Security Council on Friday.
