Someone has hacked into the NASA space agency's computer system to the tune of one million dollars of damage, and the hackers could have accessed sensitive US national security information, according to US officials.
"An investigation, opened following information received from the US embassy in Poland, has confirmed that the hacking originated from a computer in Poznan," Miroslaw Adamski, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office in Poznan told AFP.
Polish investigators located the computer used to hack into NASA's systems in a western Poland city called Poznan, but the investigators have yet to make any arrests.
"Investigators are continuing to search for the person who used the computer to enter the NASA computer system," Adamski told AFP. He also told Polish public television that the US embassy, after informing Poland of the hacking, also claimed the hackers live in Poznan.
Poznan's local newspaper, the Gazeta Wyborcza, reported that the main suspect is the son of a Polish military officer who recently graduated, citing unnamed sources. According to a Poznan television report, the hacker got into NASA's computer systems in May or June and may face eight years in prison.
