THE unbeaten U.S. team overcame its worst shooting performance of the World Basketball Championship to defeat Germany 85-65 here today and reach a semi-final against Greece.
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 19 points to spark the NBA squad past a determined German team, despite the Americans' woeful 38 per cent accuracy rate from the field, hitting only 32-of-85 shots.
"We'll have nights when shots don't fall," Anthony said.
"We did it on the defensive end. It was just frustrating when you know we're not making shots and we know we can make these shots.
"Everyone was cool. Everybody relaxed. We wanted to win the game all in one play, on one shot, in the first half. We just calmed down in the second half. We just kept shooting. We started making more shots in the second half."
Unbeaten Greece, led by Antonis Fotsis and Lazaros Papadopoulos, each with 14 points, beat France 73-56 in a defence-minded quarter-final.
The French hit only 21-of-60 shots from the field, and were buried by an impressive Greek defensive effort that kept them to a tournament-low.
