Diagnosing Alzheimer's or Parkinson's in its early stages can be made by testing a person's sense of smell according to new research.
A recent study carried out by Dr Thomas Hummel from the University of Dresden found that one in 10 patients who had a reduced ability to smell were also in the early stages of Parkinson's. He said this could be an important factor in achieving early diagnoses.
"The onset of Parkinson's and its development can be delayed or lessened with an early diagnosis," said Dr Hummel.
