MUMBAI, Dec 31 (PNS): In the wake of escalating tensions along border, Indian Navy has put anti-missile close range self-defence systems in and around Mumbai on ''high alert''.
Anti missile self-defence artillery were seen installed around the Naval Armament Depot at Uran, across the Mumbai harbour. Small calibre guns have also been placed at vantage points overlooking the Uran Jetty.
Eyewitnesses said there has been large-scale movement of arms from the depot and the fishing port is now buzzing with movement of heavy-duty defence vehicles. Detachments of marine commandos have been mobilised.
Mumbai serves as the headquarters of the Western Naval Command, which defends the western shores. An Indian Navy spokesperson was quoted as saying by Express News Service that various detachments had been put on "high alert''. End.
