BRUSSELS – About 350 far-right Flemish demonstrators marched through the Brussels district of Rhode-St-Genèse on Sunday.

hey were demanding the redrawing of electoral boundaries in Brussels-Hal-Vilvoorde – an issue which has proved so divisive for Belgian politics that Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt has put it on ice until after the next general election in 2007.

On Monday, news agency Belga reported that the Flemish nationalists gathered in the centre of Rhode-St-Genèse with banners featuring slogans such as ‘Splitsing Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde nu’ (‘Split Brussels-Halle-Vilvoorde’) and ‘stop Franstalig imperialisme’ (‘Stop fracophone imperialism’).
