A 54-year-old man was charged with possessing explosives without authority after the discovery of a First World War mortar at the Channel Tunnel.
Stephen Hart, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was bailed until February 10 when he is due at Folkestone magistrates court.
He was charged under the Firearms Act after allegedly attempting to take the bomb through the tunnel to France.
Kent Police said said the incident was not believed to be terrorist-related. It was alleged that Hart had been in possession of a Stokes First World War mortar shell at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone.
The mortar was destroyed in a controlled explosion at the tunnel terminal after services through the tunnel were shut down.
Bomb squad officers were sent to the terminal at Folkestone after explosives were detected inside a car during a security check.
