2. Paranormal News | Monica Green: Lions, tigers and UFOs, oh my!
Stephenville recently made national headlines. It didn’t have a huge crime, sporting event or weather disaster.
Some residents saw a UFO. At least they think they did.
A UFO is any object that appears to be flying and cannot be identified by the observer during or after the observance. People devote their lives to them, hoping they find proof of life on other planets or proof of top-secret government conspiracies.
The National UFO Reporting Center, founded in 1974, receives, records and attempts to corroborate reports individuals submit about possible UFO-related events.
The Web site, www.nuforc.org, has 2,139 reported UFO incidents in Texas from 1945 until last year. In 2005 a Cleburne resident reported seeing a red dot that was “way too fast for man kind.” It moved in figure eights in the sky, the resident said. Other, previous Cleburne sightings were reported as well.
The Web site also has several reports from people in the Stephenville area who claimed to have seen the UFO.
Here’s an idea: With as many people have claimed to see the UFO in the Stephenville area, why are there no pictures? No pictures, no video, nothing has been brought forward to corroborate the sighting.
Steve Allen, a freight company owner in Glen Rose, picked up on the lack of documentation too and is offering a reward for authentic video of the UFO. He saw it and will give someone $5,000 for video proof.
A cell phone video on CNN.com shows the object. The video, however, is too jumpy to tell what it is and if it is anything other than a light from a light pole.
The man shooting the video seems to be mocking the sight, saying “close encounter of the third kind” and making mocking noises.
I’m going to need something a little more concrete to believe this UFO story.
The Mutual UFO Network, which decided to come investigate the sightings in Stephenville, has more than 200 reported sightings a month. MUFON says most originate from California, Colorado and Texas. The group was supposed to be in Stephenville on Saturday to investigate.
So what of the nearly dozen residents who claimed to have seen the UFO? They are all reported to be trustworthy and reliable.
Perhaps the sighting can be easily explained. Whether it is related to the military, weather or science, I am sure there is a reason for the lights.
Of course, one reporter I know said that if the aliens look like actress Katherine Heigl, they’re welcome to come land in Cleburne and take over.
